Questions to Ask Tarot: 15 Examples

Choose a starting point, then make the question your own before you begin.

These prompts are for reflection, not prediction. Let the cards help you notice perspective, values and possibilities.

From vague to specific

A small rewrite often makes the difference between a reading that feels generic and one that gives you something to work with. Four common questions, each with a version that is easier to read.

  • Too vague
    Will I be happy?
    More specific
What would help me feel more at ease in my everyday life right now?

“Happy” covers everything at once and asks for a forecast. The new version names an area and asks what you can do in it.

  • Too vague
    Does he love me?
    More specific
What do I want from this relationship, and how can I say it clearly?

No card can tell you what another person feels. Turning the question toward your own needs gives the reading something honest to answer.

  • Too vague
    What will happen at work?
    More specific
What should I focus on to handle my workload this month?

An open-ended future is too wide for any spread. A timeframe and a concrete concern give each card a clear job.

  • Too vague
    Should I change my life?
    More specific
What is one change I keep putting off, and what is holding me back?

A yes or no about everything leaves nothing to interpret. The rewrite points at a real hesitation you can look at.
